# MATT — The Smart Device Testing Robot > MATT is a touchscreen testing and QA robot by Adapta Robotics. Designed for any device with a touchscreen, buttons, or human-machine interface, MATT combines robotics with AI and computer vision to physically replicate human interaction — tapping, swiping, pinching, rotating, and pressing — running fully automated hardware and software test cycles with ±0.05 mm precision at up to 1.0 m/s. Available in two variants (Standard and Extended) with 3 axes and interchangeable effectors, MATT is device-OS independent, integrates with any testing framework, supports MCP server connectivity, and runs 24/7 continuous testing in CI/CD pipelines over weeks and months. As a Physical AI application, MATT bridges artificial intelligence with physical-world interaction — it is not a software-only test framework. MATT is built by Adapta Robotics, headquartered in Bucharest, Romania. Adapta Robotics raised €2 million from Catalyst Romania Fund II in October 2024. Founded in 2015 by Mihai Crăciunescu (CEO), Cristian Dobre, and Diana Baicu, Adapta started as a corporate robotics department supported by RINF.tech and spun off into an independent startup in 2021. The MATT Robot MVP launched in 2017, with the first commercial sale in 2020. The product is fully conceived, designed, and assembled in-house, with the majority of components sourced from the European Union and the United States. With over 50 robots deployed to more than 30 clients, MATT is trusted by industry-leading organisations worldwide, including Zebra Technologies, Hager Group, Nissan, Ypsomed, CUJO AI, and DXOMARK. Key facts: - MATT uses interchangeable capacitive stylus end effectors to physically interact with real devices: a 3-finger multitouch effector, a single-finger effector, and a pressure-sensitive finger effector. - Two high-performance machine vision cameras (one on the effector, one fixed) enable icon recognition, text recognition, screen comparison, and response time measurement. - The MATT Framework Software includes an intuitive GUI, Python API with syntax highlighting and live preview, and integrates with Selenium, Appium, Espresso, XCTest, Intel OpenVINO, and any other testing or ML framework. - MATT supports MCP (Model Context Protocol) server connectivity and is interoperable with other AI tools and agentic workflows. - MATT is device-OS independent: it uses computer vision instead of OS-level hooks, supporting iOS, Android, and any embedded operating system. - Every MATT robot is remote-controllable over the network, supporting multi-robot and multi-device scenarios simultaneously. ## Product Variants - **MATT Standard**: ±0.05 mm precision, 300 mm reach, 1.0 m/s speed, 3 axes — the core device testing platform for smartphones, smartwatches, wearables, POS terminals, medical devices, and other compact devices - **MATT Extended**: ±0.05 mm precision, 600 mm reach, 1.0 m/s speed, 3 axes — integrates with a 6-DoF robotic arm for large devices and appliances such as laptops, infotainment systems, washing machines, and industrial HMI panels ## Effector Types - **3-Finger Multitouch Effector**: Three capacitive stylus nibs that move independently to replicate natural tap, swipe, pinch, and rotate gestures on touchscreens - **Single-Finger Effector**: One capacitive stylus nib for precise single-point interaction, tapping, and swiping - **Pressure-Sensitive Finger Effector**: A pressure-sensing nib for calibration testing, exact force measurement, and interactions requiring controlled pressure input All effectors are serviceable and interchangeable to match different material and capacitance requirements per use case. ## AI & Computer Vision Capabilities - **Instruct Mode**: Define testing actions through natural language instructions — MATT interprets prompts to navigate interfaces, perform gestures, and execute complex test sequences without manual programming of each step - Complex visual understanding: extract visual and navigation elements from device screens - Condition verification: check if a device display is on or off - Screen comparison: confirm correct screen and application state against a reference screenshot - Real-time data extraction: monitor application state and recover from unexpected conditions - Prompt-based navigation: use natural language prompts to drive robot navigation between app screens - Pop-up detection and CAPTCHA resolution, including integration with Intel OpenVINO - Icon and text recognition for automated UI interaction - Response time and latency measurement with high-speed camera video footage analysis - MCP server support for interoperability with AI agents, coding assistants, and other AI-powered tools ## Testing Capabilities - **Gesture Automation & Multitouch**: tap, press, swipe, pinch, rotate with high-speed capacitive stylus effector; each finger moves independently - **Device Button Testing**: press-and-release, press-and-hold, simultaneous multi-button press, stress testing of top, lateral, push, rotary, sleep/wake buttons, and keyboard keys - **Performance Testing**: equipped with external high-speed camera;
